No format, whether cine, digital or other, should be looked upon as a "Default" fomat. Meaning you should choose your format by what you wish to achieve. As an example, the director of Chuck and Buck, (forgot his name) said he shot on digital because it gave the film a more intimate feel, as if you were intruding in thier lives, which in turn contributed to the awkward subject matter. Blair witch, Hi-8 made it seem realer, 16mm made it spooky.
At the end of the day, your regular cinema goer couldn't give a **** what it's shot on, they just want to be entertained. Your format should contribute to that, and the subject matter.
Don't choose it just because it's thier.

That was the original point of this topic post.

The same thing is happening with digital, people want to run before walking.

By not much, I think you meant not much money. Do an internet search, I'm sure there are places closer than you think that sell Super-8 film.

Nothing wrong with that, but then in their dazed stupor they point to film as the enemy. "I wouldn't be so dazed and confused if Film wasn't king", they surmise.

Once film is transferred to video, it is just as easy to plug into a PC.
And since you probably chose your shots more selectively, you can make up for "lost time" by having less, but more concise shots to edit from.

I also think, for the record, that film has that certain something, like vinyl. It's more "grown up" and will always be inextricably linked with movies. You dont see a harddisk in the "Graemlins"...

There are a couple of things there, Super8...

My point with this is that I got my camera, capture card, pc all for other reasons than filmmaking. I'd be hard pressed to get super8 equipment "to take on holiday" past the missus

I would say similar to women who weren't eligible to vote in the past...

Anyway, good thread! Keep it up

I don't think that is an accurate analogy. Your point implies that we had a period of time during the early stages of industrialization when society was devoid of stories that represented all parts of society.

I disagree with that.

Just because everyone couldn't tell their own personal story does not mean that similar types of stories were not being created.

It was merely a reaction to your assertion that those who use digital are unskilled...
I suppose I should have said, those who are unwilling to use a calculator forums

hehe

Actually, you said that!

Or at least I thought you did. Didn't you say that digital is getting people to run before they walk?

I don't recall ever saying that those who use digital are unskilled.
